Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into your role / in the construction marketing industry?
I have a background in Radio, having earned my degree in Radio and Digital Production. I began my career in radio at Heart and Virgin, which sparked my interest in social media through internships focused on radio-based content. I found myself drawn to the fast-paced nature and relaxed style of social media, enjoying the fun and challenges it presented.
After that, I joined an agency that served a variety of industries. Although I hadn’t originally planned to work in construction, a great interview with Leon and Bailey convinced me that this was the right opportunity, and I’ve been here ever since. Eventually, I decided to transition from social media to explore broader fields and adopt a more holistic approach, leading me to move into Account Management.
What do you enjoy most about working in construction digital marketing?
We collaborate with numerous brands and products where the benefits are clearly visible. In social media, we receive direct feedback about how a product or accessory has made a positive impact. It’s a vast market with significant potential, which means there’s always something exciting on the horizon for us to engage with.
What is a project you’re most proud of and why?
One of my proudest achievements has been growing the Grabo UK Instagram page. I took it over when it had just under 2,000 followers, and after two years of dedicated effort, we handed it back with over 20,000 followers. This growth, 18,000 followers in total, was built on fostering a strong and engaging community, positioning the page as the industry leader and the go-to choice for tradespeople.
How do you stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in both construction and digital marketing?
LinkedIn has been invaluable for me. I follow numerous marketing pages that provide regular updates across various areas of the field. In construction, I’m fortunate to have family members working in the trades, which allows me to engage in insightful conversations and stay informed about that sector. Additionally, Tradectory has supported my professional growth by offering access to excellent courses, helping me stay current and enhancing my marketing skills and knowledge.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to a construction company looking to improve its digital presence?
What are you waiting for? Many traditional construction brands continue to use familiar advertising methods such as leaflets and flyers, but there are growing opportunities to expand their reach through social media and digital marketing. By utilising the wide range of free tools available online, businesses can connect with more customers and enhance their visibility in a cost-effective way.
When executed well, digital marketing doesn’t have to be loud, cheesy, or intrusive; it can be subtle and well-planned, leading to outstanding results. By hesitating to start, you’re only postponing potential success with an audience that remains largely untapped.
What do you think makes Tradectory stand out from other construction marketing agencies?
Without sounding cliché, I truly believe the team cares deeply, not just about the businesses we partner with, but also about the audiences we reach and the teams we collaborate with. We are an incredibly adaptable group, tackling any challenges that arise with a no-fuss attitude and making it work seamlessly.
If you could work on any dream project, what would it be?
Personally, I would love the opportunity to collaborate with a charity. While I take great joy in seeing our clients grow and succeed, being able to contribute to a cause that positively impacts people's lives would be truly rewarding. In the trades, there is still a significant stigma surrounding mental health, so being involved with a charity focused on this issue would be an incredible experience.
